Preparation

Before starting, ensure that all children have a basic understanding of the media tools they will use in the activity. Take time to introduce or review how to use cameras, tablets, or photo editing programs if needed.

Prepare all materials in advance.

Implementation

Begin by inviting the children to take a selfie using a tablet or camera. Then, ask them to take close-up photos of different facial details - like eyes, noses, mouths, or ears.

Together, look at the photos on the computer or projector screen. The group takes turns guessing who is behind each facial detail, observing expressions, shapes, and differences in a fun, respectful way.

This activity promotes self-awareness, attention to detail, and group connection, while encouraging children to see themselves and others with curiosity and care.

Variations and Additional Ideas

Extend the activity by having children take full-body photos of one another in pairs or small groups. Each child can then edit their favorite photo using simple digital tools in a way that expresses how they feel or who they want to be in that moment.

Turn this into an art activity by printing the edited photo as a template for drawing or painting. Children can then rework their photo using mixed media to explore identity and creativity.

Printed photos of facial details can be made into memory cards or flashcards.
